Also, once you shift your mindset as if you are listening/imagining a stage play, the exaggerated & over-the-top elements make much more sense ("So giddyup and she'll confound you " or later with "On a starway to the stars"). Besides the clunking & mawkish "Hooligan" this rock opera is off to a varied and bombastic start-- while it's not immediately a predictable "Pumpkins Record" it is unmistakably William Patrick Corgan's. It's an LP that takes a few listens to fully appreciate.
